Troubled former NBA guard Delonte West is arrested AGAIN (2024)

Troubled former NBA guard Delonte West suffered a medical emergency and ultimately needed to be revived following his arrest in Virginia on charges ofviolating conditions of release and resisting police.

Police officers were attempting to serve a warrant to West in Groveton, Virginia when he fled. A foot pursuit ensued and when police finally did catch up to West, he was found 'unresponsive.'

'Narcan was administered by officers, but [it] did not have the desired effect,' Police told DailyMail.com, referring to the emergency medication for drug overdoses. 'He was transported to a local hospital and Narcan was administered again, which yielded the desired effect. West was released from the hospital and transported to the [adult detention center].'

A beleaguered West, 40, was later seen in a disturbing mugshot with unkempt hair and sagging eyelids. He is now scheduled tp appear in court on Friday and is still being held on bond. TMZ was the first to report his arrest.

A former St. Joseph's star who became a productive NBA guard for the Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers, West has battled through mounting legal problems since the end of his career. He was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2008, but has also disputed that assessment.

West earned over $16 million during his nine-year career, which ended after his only season with theDallas Mavericks in 2011-2012, when he was just 28.

His post-playing life has one unfortunate episode after another.

Two years ago West was seen loitering outside of a 7-Eleven convenience store inVirginiawhere he appeared to be asking people for money.

A year earlier,West was arrested in Floridafor resisting an officer without violence and disorderly intoxication. The Washington DC native was allegedly witnessed banging on the windows of a local police precinct.According to the police report obtained byWPTV.com, West was screaming profanities while holding open containers of beer and vodka.

In 2020, West checked into a Florida drug treatment facility at the urging of Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban following a lengthy search by a number of concerned people.

West, a father of two, is still married to his second wife, Caressa. It's unclear if she is in touch with West at this time.

Ten months earlier, another viral video showed West being pummeled along a Maryland highway.

Following that incident,West's former Saint Joseph's University teammate, ex-NBA star Jameer Nelson, and their one-time coach Phil Martelli expressed their concern on social media.

'I'm sick today,' Nelson wrote. 'Mental illness is something that a lot of people deal with and don't even know it, until sometimes it's too late. I'm not sure what exactly is going on with Dwest but he knows I'm in his corner and will help him get through this.

'Yes, I've spoken to him Over the past several months, just trying to be there for him as a friend.'

Martelli, who is now retired, responded to Nelson's statement on Twitter: 'Over the past several hours I have talked with many who are willing to help - please read and embrace Jameer's wisdom - we are reaching out to our basketball network to get the professional help Delonte needs. This is so very painful.'

West first made headlines along with Nelson and Martelli on a Saint Joseph's team that went 27-0 in the 2004 regular season and earned a top seed for the NCAA tournament before losing to Oklahoma State in the Elite 8.

He was then drafted by the Celtics in the first round of the 2004 NBA Draft and eventually became a starter alongside LeBron James with the Cavs in 2008.

West continued to bounce around the NBA after that, playing in the D-League and even signing in China, but mental health issues began to overshadow his career.

He even had a chance to take part in Ice Cube's BIG3 league, but nothing ever came of the opportunity.

In 2009 he was pulled over riding a three-wheeled motorcycle, leading police to discover three firearms strapped to his body. He ultimately pleaded guilty to weapon charges and was ordered to undergo psychological counseling, in addition to probation and community service.

In 2016 a photo emerged of him panhandling in suburban Washington D.C., but it was never proven that he was actually homeless at the time.
