FAQs

How long do I grill corn on the cob? ›

Place the corn on the grill, close the cover and grill for 15 to 20 minutes, turning every 5 minutes, or until kernels are tender when pierced with a paring knife. Remove the husks and eat on the cob or remove the kernels. Serve with the BBQ Butter and/or Herb Butter. Spread over the corn while hot.

How do you tell if corn on the cob is done on the grill? ›

Place the corn directly on the grill grates and cook until the husk begins to blacken, then turn. Cook 20 to 22 minutes total, until the corn is cooked through. To check whether it's done, pull back the husk on one corn to make sure it is bright yellow and cooked through all the way to the bottom of the cob.

Does corn on the cob need to be thawed before grilling? ›

Remove your corn cobs from the freezer. Do not thaw them; they can go straight on the grill frozen. Coat each corn cob in olive oil with a silicone basting brush, then place corn directly on the hot grill grates. Shut the lid to the grill and allow your corn to cook.

Should you cover corn on the grill? ›

Direct on charcoal or BBQ flames – you get the best charring but it does have a tendency to dry out some of the kernels before all the kernels are cooked. Husk off, wrapped in foil – juicy kernels, like grilled corn with the husk on, but the most prep! Husk off, on the grills – my favourite method.

How long does corn on the cob take on the grill in foil? ›

It takes approximately 20 minutes (10 minutes per side) to grill corn on the cob when cooked in foil. After cooking for 20 minutes on the grill, remove the corn in the foil from the grill. Let the corn steam in the sealed foil for 5 minutes after removing it from the grill to soften up the kernels.

Can you overcook corn on the cob on the grill? ›

A note about this method: It's easy to overcook grilled corn this way. Those grill marks look delicious, but when they're on a majority of the kernels, the corn becomes dry. For the best texture and flavor, cook the corn just until light char marks form and the kernels are bright yellow.

Should I wrap corn in foil to grill? ›

The foil traps the steam and corn juices to keep the ears from drying out so there's no need for pre-soaking the corn. On hot summer days, you can avoid turning on your stove by cooking foil-wrapped corn outside on the grill. Cooking corn in foil requires hardly any prep and is the easiest method.

Can you just throw corn on the grill? ›

Clean and oil grilling grate. Place corn directly over hot side of grill and cook, turning occasionally, until charred on all sides and fully tender, about 10 minutes total. Remove corn from grill and allow to rest for 2 minutes. Roll in butter, sprinkle with salt, and serve immediately.

And unlike aluminum foil, which many people use to wrap their grilled corn, the husks still allow smoke to permeate the corn, giving it a hint of charred flavor. Plus, since the corn already comes in the husk, it's super easy.

Why soak corn before grilling? ›

Soaking the corn husks in water has two important purposes. For starters, soaking the corn in water prevents the corn husks from burning or catching on fire. Secondly, the excess moisture helps steam the corn inside the husk and makes the corn kernels as juicy and plump as possible.

What is the best way to grill corn? ›

Preheat grill to medium-high heat. Remove corn from the water and shake off excess so it's not dripping. Place cobs on the grill and cook 15-20 minutes, turning occasionally. Once corn is cooked to your liking remove from the grill, peel off husks and serve with butter, salt & pepper.

Why is my grilled corn sticky? ›

The sugars in the kernels will have turned to starch, making the corn gummy to the bite after cooking. If possible, buy your corn from a local farmer and buy only corn that you are allowed to choose for yourself. Ask when the corn was picked and how it was stored after picking.
